Marketing in North Africa

Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia add almost 100 million people to a MENA campaign. They need their own languages, creators and channel mix.

The Maghreb is a different marketing world from the Gulf. Facebook and YouTube carry far more weight, Snapchat and X far less, and the language of a campaign is a real decision: Modern Standard Arabic, local Darija or French each reach a different slice of the audience.

Advertising audience reach as a share of total population, from DataReportal's Digital 2026 country reports (data from late 2025). TikTok is shown as an absolute number of adults because it reports no population share. Ad reach is not the same as monthly active users.

Facebook and YouTube each reach more than half the population in all three countries. Snapchat reaches about one in five, compared with about three in four in Saudi Arabia.

Language

In Morocco, French is widely used by educated urban audiences while Darija is the language of the mass market, and promotional material typically runs in French or Arabic. We decide the language mix per brief, and often run two versions of the same idea.

Rules for creators

Morocco had no dedicated influencer licence as of late 2025, with a framework for digital creators still being drafted. We check the position in each country before a campaign.

Questions we get asked

Should a campaign in Morocco be in Arabic or French?

Often both. French reaches educated urban audiences, while Darija and Arabic reach the mass market. We decide the mix per brief and audience.
